Essential Winter Warmers for Bonfire Night

Remember, remember the 5th of November. Everyone knows the rhyme. But before heading out to the firework night in celebration of Guy Fawkes, there are a few other things that you should try to remember, and keeping warm is the predominant theme!

Winter wardrobes are so much more than a big coat and a knitted jumper. Remembering all of the accessories will help you to stay toastie warm in the freezing temperatures that hit throughout these winter months. So here’s a Top 5 for staying warm this bonfire night.

1. Faux fur headbands- These were the essential winter accessory last year, and they certainly are lingering into this season too. The Russian inspired fur headband is the most stylish way for girls to keep warm. Who wants to ruin their hair from a beanie or a bobble hat? No one. So by making sure that you head is at least half covered, is one of the easiest ways to fight off the chill.

2. Chunky scarves- For me, scarves are the ultimate accessory. Huge ranges, making them suitable for sun and snow, wearing a a scarf does so much more to your outfit, as well as keeping you warm. Now, for winter, you can forget the pretty chiffon numbers and bring back the chunky, cable knits. Tied loosely around your neck whilst accompanied with the rest of your outfit, a chunky scarf will seem like your new best friend when the weather is at it’s lowest.

3. Boots- Wellingtons, Uggs, Cowboy boots, the list is endless. But there is no point in braving the weather for firework night if you haven’t got yourself a pair of boots. Baring all for your ankles, winter boots make the perfect accompaniment to any outfit. Furry linings will help to keep your feet warm, and the one thing that your Mum would always say is that you lose the most heat from your feet!

4. Gloves- It seems like an obvious solution, but you’ll be surprised how many people face the winter without any gloves. There is so much choice on the high streets of today, leather, cotton, fleece. These are all a great way to get your hands warm and make sure that frost bite doesn’t pay you a visit. As a child you would always be told to wear your gloves, and unless you’ve lost one, leather gloves are an ideal accessory to a stylish winter wardrobe.

5. Roll-necks- finally one of the biggest mistakes that could be made is a lack of roll-neck jumpers. Firework night, standing around, head in the sky, and you haven’t layered up. Big mistake. At least with a roll-neck, every inch of your upper body is enclosed in knitwear. It’s so easy to layer up with roll necks, also, because you can’t see any tops that you may have laying underneath.

So remember, remember, make sure you’ve got the essentials to staying warm before you head out for a night of firework and bonfire celebrations.

Favourites from the Goodie Bag!

So to those of you that follow me on Instagram, or saw the extremely exciting goodie bag that I got at the end of my 2 weeks at Heat, you will know that it was jammed packed with so many gorgeous products and treats. And since being back from London for over a week now, I thought I would compile a review of my favourites from the bag to share with you all!

First up, it has to be the Mark Hill Wonder Hair Spray. This stuff is genius. With a 12 in 1 formula, this Wonder Spray holds, lifts, shapes, protects your hair in ways you could never imagine. The worst thing about other hair sprays is the crispy, rock-solid feeling that you get once you’ve sprayed your hair. Ew! With this, the after effect is seamless. You’re hair feels fabulous and is fit for all weathers. There is no way that I could go back to any normal hairspray!

Next up on the list is most definitely the Surratt Lip Lustre in Nudite. I mean, forget the fancy name, it’s a nude lip gloss, but it is so elegant and easy to wear. Nudes are easy to match with most outfits, but there is nothing worse than having a cup of tea and finding that your lippy is gone within half an hour of applying it. Long lasting and subtle, the perfect combo for any occasion.

Now, dry shampoo has fast become any girls saviour. If you’re after volume, touching up the roots, or if you actually just don’t have the time to wash your hair before work, dry shampoo is the answer. But, for me, life has moved on past the standard Bastiste; it’s now all about COLAB Dry Shampoo New York. Forget the fact that its recommended by Ruth Crilly, this stuff smells incredible. Say goodbye to the white marks on your hair, this just blends into your hair leaving it feeling fresh and volumised (and reasonably clean!) Perfect!

Mascara can be a really difficult challenge to master on its own, and often it takes you months to find a particular one that works with your lashes. Plastic brush? Straight brush? Curved brush? Extra bristles? And the choice goes on. But, through luck, I have finally found a mascara that trumps all others: Scandaleyes Mascara by Kate Moss. Armed with a broken heart brush, limp lashes are now a thing of the past!

Scandaleyes by Kate Moss can be found at Boots for £7.49

And lastly, its brows. Barry M have released Brow Kit: Shape and Define and it certainly is the next best thing. Eye brow pencils are no longer since this is handy kit has arrived. Packed with a pair of mini tweezers and a highlighting powder to emphasise the arch, your eye brows will never have looked better! Nailed it!

Top 5 Best Things About Summer

Uni has finished. You’ve moved back home. Summer has officially begun. And with the weather being as glorious as it is, this certainly calls for a reflection on the best things about the summer season.

Beach days are the best days
Beach days are the best days

1. The Beach – nothing can beat a warm sunny day the beach. Us Brits are determined to make a coastal appearance, even if the weather is bad. Miles of golden sand and vast expanses of water, we’ll dip our feet in whether the temperature is in minus numbers or not. I’m sure everyone can say they’re guilty of an English sunburn. Laying on the beach, sizzling until you physically cannot stay any longer – then regretting it in the evening when you could quite possibly fry an egg on your shoulders. Where’s the aftersun?

2. BBQs – Any time of the day. Any day of the week. You cannot say no to a BBQ. Sausages, burgers, chicken skewers and corn on the cob, all charcoaled by your Dad’s best BBQing skills. There’s something about a BBQ in the sunshine with a cider in one hand and a burger in the other. Absolute perfection. Still sitting outside late at night, being bitten to death by mosquitoes – that’s when you know you’re in the really summer spirit!

3. Wimbledon – As soon as the sun arrives you know that Wimbledon cannot be far around the corner. Two weeks of solid tennis entertainment. It almost becomes an addiction. Will he, won’t he? Can Murray bag us another win for this year? Strawberries and cream on centre court and endless jugs of Pimms, it’s difficult to realise why you would want to be too far from a television screen.

4. Holidays – The countdown began a fair few months ago now and you’re so near to the end. Weeks abroad, relaxing by a pool, sunbathing on an exotic beach, ice cream after ice cream and bottle upon bottle of after sun. It’s a chance to test your GCSE languages that are still somewhere buried at the back of your brain. Absorbing foreign cultures and most importantly, time to chill out. Lounging around in the sun with a cocktail in arms length. Paradise.

5. Sunshine – We can never be too sure when it comes to summer whether we are going to get the weather that we hope for, but nevertheless, there’s sure to be a day or two filled with British sun. It’s not quite the same as the heat we get in the Mediterranean but, if nothing else, it puts a smile on our face.

So we can only live in hope that this sunny weather continues for a bit longer. If not, we shall be digging out the waterproofs and winter woollies slightly earlier than we had wished!
